Mirjam supports higher education for sustainable development through strategy development and implementation, process facilitation, training, education and research. The use of Appreciative Inquiry enables Mirjam to be more effective in this work. She is passionate about how AI can strengthen both higher education and sustainable development, of which she has described the basics in the book chapter ‘Supporting transformation towards sustainable development: The use of Appreciative Inquiry in responsible management education’. Mirjam is a certified practitioner and facilitator in Conversations Worth Having.

Mirjam currently works (part time) at TIAS School for Business and Society, a Dutch Business School. As ‘Policy Advisor Business & Society’ she is responsible for designing and implementing the school’s strategy concerning ‘Business & Society’. After completing her Master’s degree in International Relations (with a specialization in the position of developing countries), Mirjam initially worked in the field of microfinance, fair trade, and responsible investing. She gradually shifted towards sustainable development and corporate social responsibility (CSR) - and specifically towards training and education on these issues. During the last years, she focusses on competencies for sustainable development, transformative learning, and appreciative pedagogy and education.

Mirjam is based in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and feels most alive when engaged in an international setting. Connecting the ‘me-we-all of us’ is key to her personality and work. She finds joy, inspiration and energy in cooking (and enjoying the result with family and friends), photography, cycling and reading.
