Andy Gavalis, EdD

Andy, a literacy education professor at East Stroudsburg University and school literacy consultant, has dedicated his career to fostering a love of language and literacy across various educational settings. His background in reading and language arts, including a Master of Education and Doctor of Education, underpins his commitment to bringing "conversations worth having" to every classroom.

Outside of his professional life, Andy finds profound connection and purpose in his Buddhist faith. As a devoted member and board member of Thekchen Choling Syracuse, he emphasizes the importance of community, actively supporting his community by assisting the temple’s monks with English language skills and contributing to temple maintenance. He views his daily Buddhist practice, inspired by Singha Rinpoche's guidance, as a transformative lens for his thoughts, speech, and actions, continuously shaping him into a kinder and more purposeful individual.
