Conversations Worth Having: Using Appreciative Inquiry to Fuel Productive and Meaningful Engagement

Conversations can be critical and destructive, or they can be generative and productive. This book shows how to guarantee your conversations will help people, organizations, and communities flourish.

Conversations are at the core of how we interact. We all know that conversations influence us, but we rarely stop to think about how much impact they have on our well-being and our ability to thrive. This book shows how Appreciative Inquiry (AI) - one of the most widely used approaches for fostering positive change for individuals, groups, organizations, and communities - can help everyone communicate better and flourish in all areas of their lives. This book spells out 2 practices and 5 principles to create great conversations. Each chapter is built around real-life stories of people using these practices and principles to strengthen relationships and generate possibilities for a future that works for everyone.

MEET THE AUTHORS AND CO-CREATORS:

Jackie Stavros, DM & Cheri Torres, PhD

Jackie and Cheri have been friends, colleagues, and co-authors since 2004. They were brought together by a passion for the positive affect Appreciative Inquiry (AI) was having on their lives and their clients. Their first book was Dynamic Relationships: Unleashing the Power of Appreciative Inquiry in Daily Living. Since its publication, they have been working with people and organizations worldwide to bring AI into daily living. During that time, they realized the essence of Appreciative Inquiry lies in two simple practices and five principles for effective practice.

Research has proven that appreciative and inquiry-based conversations have the greatest chance of helping us improve overall well-being, build our capacity for collaboration and innovation, and strengthen our relationships. Imagine what’s possible if we are all having such conversations – what we call conversations worth having.
